Ambala, March 26

The Ambala police have booked a rice miller for not returning over 804 MT custom milled rice to the Food Corporation of India.

The suspect has been identified as Rajender Kumar. As per information, during the 2013-14 kharif season, the district milling committee had allotted Mittal Rice General Industries, Nasirpur, to Haryana Agro Industries Corporation Limited (HAICL), for custom milling of paddy.

The agreement was signed on November 21, 2013, with the rice miller and Haryana Agro had handed over 1925.35 MT paddy to Mittal Rice General Industries for milling. The rice miller had to supply 1289.98 MT of custom milled rice on behalf of the HAICL, to the Food Corporation of India, latest by March 31, 2014. The last date was extended by the Union Government up to September 30, 2014.

But the rice mill had only supplied 485.43 MT custom milled rice (CMR) to the FCI and failed to deliver 804.55 MT of the CMR. The total financial loss caused to the corporation by the miller is Rs 4,37,68,014.

The Deputy General Manager of Haryana Agro had complained to the police that the owners and their guarantors had breached the provisions of the agreement and had conspired to commit a fraud and loot the government exchequer of Rs 4,37,68,014. Haryana Agro has sought action against the miller and guarantors. A case has been registered under Sections 406 and 420. — TNS
