Two policemen have filed petitions for regular bail in the special CBI court here.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Rajbir Singh and Constable Surinder Rathi were nabbed in separate cases of graft.
On January 4, the CBI had laid a trap to nab SI Rajbir Singh, who was posted as an additional SHO at the Sector 31 police station, for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 10,000. However, the SI reportedly fled after taking the bribe. He surrendered in a local court on January 10.
In another case, Constable Rathi was allegedly caught accepting Rs 45,000 as bribe on behalf of the SHO, Mauli Jagran police station, on January 28. In his complaint to the CBI, Ramesh had alleged that the SHO sought Rs 1.20 lakh for not registering a case against his nephew and others. The bribe was negotiated and reduced to Rs 55,000. On getting a complaint, the CBI laid a trap. CBI sleuths claimed that Rathi took Rs 45,000 on behalf of the SHO and was arrested. The sleuths then reached the Mauli Jagran police station and arrested the SHO. — TNS
