Arrested for theft, Dhanas resident flees GRP custody

CHANDIGARH: A Dhanas resident, who was arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) in a theft case, managed to escape from its custody when he was taken to the village to arrest a co-accused on Monday.

A Dhanas resident, who was arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) in a theft case, managed to escape from its custody when he was taken to the village to arrest a co-accused on Monday.

According to the police, Sub-Inspector Kuldeep Singh reported that the accused, Javed, was arrested in a case of theft. The cops took one-day remand of the accused and took him to Dhanas to arrest his co-accused Vicky, alias Sahil.

The SI complained that Vicky escaped on seeing the police party. While the police team was returning to its vehicle, Javed pushed the cops and escaped from the spot.

The GRP submitted a complaint at the Sarangpur police station, following which a case under Section 224 (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension) and 225 (resistance or obstruction to lawful apprehension of another person) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against Javed.
