Two cops booked for taking Rs 10,000 bribe

Two cops posted at the Maloya police station have been booked by the local police for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10,000. The complainant had appeared before the UT SSP alleging that the cops took money to shield his business partner in a quarrel incident.

The police said the complainant appeared before SSP Nilambari Jagdale on Monday. The complainant, whose name the police refused to divulge, alleged that Constable Sanjay Kumar and Head Constable Ashok Kumar, posted at the Maloya police station, took a bribe of Rs 10,000 to shield his business partner in a complaint of quarrel, which had taken place at Dadu Majra.

Acting on the complaint, a case was registered against both cops under Sections 7,13 (1) (B) of the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Maloya police station.

Police officials said Constable Sanjay has joined the investigation in the case, while the second cop was on leave and had been asked to join the investigation.

The police said no arrest had been made so far. The decision on the arrest of the cops shall be taken after examining the evidence. Meanwhile, Constable Sanjay has been placed under suspension, while Head Constable Ashok Kumar has been sent to the Police Lines, Sector 26.
