UT to target learning outcomes of weak students

In a first of its kind initiative, the UT Education Department has identified weak areas of students of Classes III, V and VIII under the Post National Assessment Survey (NAS) conducted by the department in January.

The test was conducted for subjects: Hindi, English, mathematics, science and social science. Based on the test, students were segregated into grades: A (above 80 per cent), B (between 80 to 60 per cent), C (60 per cent to 45 per cent) and D (below 45 per cent).

The aim was to identify ‘D’ grade students and their common low-performing learning outcome.

20 days recapitulation for students from new session

The common low-performing learning outcome reveals that students have fared poorly in mathematics and language. The focus will be on these two subjects from the next session, wherein students will be taught the basics of mathematics of previous classes for the first 20 days.

The Education Department is devising strategies to improve mathematics of students. Resource groups have been formed consisting of master trainers of mathematics subject. The strategy will further help the department in the upcoming Programme for International Students Assessment (PISA), which is scheduled to be held in 2021 exam.
