The wheat crop of 37 farmers in Yamunanagar district on 110 acre land has been affected by yellow rust.

According to the authorities at the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, the disease has been detected on 109.5 acres in five varieties of wheat — HD 2967, HD 3059, HD 2851, HD 2733 and HD 2981 — in the district in rabi crop season so far.

In a report sent recently to the Director General of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department by Surender Yadav, deputy director, agriculture, Yamunanagar, it was stated that yellow rust was detected in Bakana, Barsan, Kalanaur, Chuharpur, Gundiyana, Kharwan, Begampur, Ramgarh Sawai, Alisherpur Majra, Harnauli, Ponti, Marwa Kalan, Judda Jattan, Shahkameshpur, Judda Jattan, Judda Sekhan and Pabni Kalan villages of the district.

Yadav said a team of officers from the Agriculture Department along with scientists of Kendriya Vigyan Kendra at Damla in Yamunanagar visited the fields affected by yellow rust.

“Yellow rust reduces the yield of crop, therefore, we are asking farmers to spray propiconazole in the affected fields,” Yadav said.

Vijay Kumar, a farmer of Begampur village, said the government should come forward to help the affected farmers and provide propiconazole for free.
