Karnal, March 22

A man and his son died as a fuel waste collection tanker caught fire in this district on Friday.

Sonu (20) and his father Surjeet (40), who were doing some welding work on the vehicle when it exploded, were killed in the accident. Both were residents of Kutana village. Surjeet was the sole bread-earner for his family. Sonu, who was still studying, had come to assist his father.

Two people, identified as Ajay, a resident of Balrangdan, and Sarwan, from Rajepur, have been admitted to a hospital in Panipat for their injuries.

Initial inquiry showed that the driver of the tanker lied to the two welders that he had his truck cleaned.

The powerful explosion threw part of the tanker some 20 feet away and damaged several nearby vehicles. DSP Assandh Dalbir Singh and DSP Gharaunda Ramdutt said that police were considering action against the truck driver.
