Cultural event, competitions mark Holi festival at GNKG College

To celebrate Holi, a cultural programme, “Rang-Barse”, was organised with great pomp and show at Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa Girls’ College here on Wednesday.

Anita Bhardwaj, wife of the Bathinda Deputy Commissioner, graced the occasion as the chief guest.

She was accorded a warm welcome on her arrival by college Dean Prof NK Gosain, Principal Shailja Monga, staff members and students. The cultural programme enthralled the audience. Besides, various competitions for students were also organized on the occasion. These were judged by Anita Bhardwaj, Dr Sukhdeep Kaur and Shailja Monga.

In the poster-making competition, Narinder Kaur and Gagandeep Kaur won first and second prize, respectively. In nail art, Varsha got the first position and Rekha Kaur secured the second place. In the paper-crafting competition, Preet Mehra bagged the first position and Ruchi stood second. In the food without fire event, Pooja Rani bagged the first position and Kiran got the second prize.

In the pot decoration event, Babaljeet Kaur and Jaspreet Kaur won first and second position, respectively. In the best-out-of-waste event, Rajni Bala and Harmandeep Kaur won prizes. In rangoli-making contest, Sonali Garg and Sukhjinder Kaur won first and second prize, respectively.

In her address, the chief guest appreciated the efforts of the organisers. Extending Holi greetings, she advised the students to use flower petals, organic colours and avoid wastage of water while playing Holi.

Teachers and students played Holi and greeted each other.

The prize winners were honoured with mementos by the chief guest and college authorities. The programme ended on a high note with giddha performance by students.
