Ludhiana, March 20
Officials of the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) on Wednesday conducted a surprise raid at the house of a business tycoon living near the Mall Road in Ludhiana.
The team could not enter the house as the businessman negotiated and took three days to clear the dues.
The businessman owns more than two Oswal firms of which dues were pending.
PF officials were accompanied by the police officials as arrest warrants were issued against the businessman.
However, he was not arrested as he assured to pay the dues, which are around Rs 80 lakh, in three days.
One of the officials of the PF Department said the businessman had cleared some of his dues and issued a post-dated cheque for the remaining amount.
“If the dues are not cleared within three days, then the businessman can be arrested for defaulting,” a senior PF official said.
Sources said earlier the PF Department had also attached properties worth lakhs owned by the businessman.
Once the dues are cleared, his attached properties will also be released, the officials said.
These PF dues are of around 250 employees and despite repeated notices, he had not cleared these.
