Vend allotment fetches Rs 944 cr

Deep Malhotra Group leads, bags 11 groups out of total 149 in the district

Deep Malhotra Group bagged maximum groups — total 11 — during the draw of liquor vends here at Harsheela Resorts on Wednesday.

The liquor vends in the district were allotted through a draw system for a whopping amount of Rs 944 crore for 2019-20 financial year.

The entire process was completed in a hassle-free manner and transparently under the guidance of DETC Pawan Garg.

A total of 713 liquor vends in 149 groups were allotted. For financial year 2019-20, the liquor vends were allotted for Rs 117 crore more than the previous fiscal 2018-19.

For 2018-19 fiscal, the liquor vends were allotted for Rs 827 crore as compared to Rs 944 crore for 2019-20 fiscal.

The auction took place under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal, Additional Excise and Taxation Commissioner, Punjab, Kumar Saurabh Raj, and Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner.

Of total 713 liquor vends in the district, 370 were from 98 groups falling within the Ludhiana MC limits, 47 for eight groups of Khanna circle, 36 for six groups of Doraha circle, 32 for seven groups of Sahnewal circle, 51 for six groups of Jagraon city circle, 46 for six groups of Jagraon Sadar circle, 45 for seven groups of Raikot circle, 46 for six groups of Samrala circle, while 40 liquor vends for five groups of Dehlon circle.

The successful contractors who got the liquor vends paid 25 per cent of the amount on the spot. They will have to pay 50 per cent within the next 48 hours and the remaining 25 per cent in the next seven days.

Garg said prices of liquor remained the same and the response by the applicants was tremendous.
