Srinagar, March 20

Rainfall and snow lashed the Valley on Wednesday inundating all major roads in Srinagar, therefore, giving a tough time to the residents. This has also exposed the defunct drainage system in the city.

The problem of poor drainage persists in Srinagar since 2014 when all drains got blocked after devastating floods hit the region, also damaging infrastructure worth crores. Since then the authorities have failed to build a new drainage system and make the damaged ones fully functional. “Over the years, the government has even failed to develop the infrastructure in Srinagar, which is the main face of the state. Then what can we expect in other places?” asked Arshid Ahmad, a shopkeeper in Lal Chowk.

The locals said the movement of the vehicles was equally difficult.
