Ludhiana, March 18

Infuriated over MC ignoring her area, the councillor of Ward No 54, Surinder Kaur Manna, has announced to go on an indefinite hunger strike. She blamed the MC for not addressing civic issues in her ward.

The Akali councillor gave an ultimatum of 24 hours to the civic body to take required measures to fix the problems, such as non-functional streetlights, leaked water supply pipes and dilapidated roads otherwise she, along with her son and area residents, would be forced to sit on a hunger strike.

She has written to Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu about the problems being faced by the ward residents.

She said, “I have complained multiple times to the officials concerned, but they have failed to pay any attention.”

“The streetlights are non-functional in the ward. The condition of roads that were constructed under the PIDB works are very poor. Officials have failed to get these roads repaired. Besides, the people are forced to drink contaminated water due to damaged water supply pipes,” she added.

The councillor’s son, who is an Akali leader, Manpreet Singh Manna, said he would also sit on the hunger strike at CMC Chowk on Tuesday.

The Akali councillors have earlier too blamed the MC authorities for ignoring their wards.

In the house meeting held last month, some councillors had blamed the civic body for carrying out development works in selected wards of Congress councillors.
