The Department of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare today organised agriculture scientists and farmer interaction with regards to the benefits of Happy Seeder sown wheat at Kaddon village.
The event was held under the supervision of Ludhiana Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Baldev Singh. He said smoke produced by burning stubble impacts health and leads to deterioration of environment.
He urged farmers to visit the wheat fields sown by using Happy Seeder.
“Even if the effect is not visible in the beginning, it will be felt at later stage. When we move towards something new, initial hurdles should be overlooked and long term gains should be kept in mind.”
Harmanpreet Singh told regarding machinery available for in-situ management of crop residue. Dr Hari Ram from the PAU shared his views about quality improvement in wheat and emphasised on use of salycilic acid and potassium in wheat cultivation.
Agriculture Development Officer (ADO) Dr Nirmal Singh discussed about diagnosis and treatment of yellow rust in wheat. ADO Dr Boota Singh described the ways to control rats in different crops. ADO Dr Iqbaljit Singh discussed various schemes for the benefit of farmers being run by the Department of Agriculture.
Doraha Block Agriculture Officer Dr Rajinderpal Singh asked farmers to adopt the latest technology for in-situ management of crop residue and to improve soil health.
“If farmers face any problem related to machinery, they can directly approach the Agriculture Department at Doraha. Farmers should get in touch with us to gain adequate knowhow about schemes being framed by the government for their benefits. Timely management of crop, quantity of pesticides to be used is of utmost importance,” said Dr Rajinderpal.
Volunteers of the Youth Forum Doraha carried out a rally to curb stubble menace. They also performed a play to make farmers aware of fatal consequences of stubble burning.
