Awareness rally on importance of vote

JALANDHAR: As a part of the ongoing Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme, Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Secretary-cum-Assistant Returning Officer (ARO), Jalandhar Cantonment Constituency, Dr Nayan Jassal today flagged off an awareness rally on the importance of vote at Lyallpur Khalsa College for Girls here.

As a part of the ongoing Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme, Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Secretary-cum-Assistant Returning Officer (ARO), Jalandhar Cantonment Constituency, Dr Nayan Jassal today flagged off an awareness rally on the importance of vote at Lyallpur Khalsa College for Girls here.

A human chain was formed to the make the people, especially students, aware of their voting rights.

Dr Jassal stated that under the SVEEP programme apart from holding college level camps such initiatives could play a pivotal role in making the students aware of their democratic rights. She apprised the young voters of the working of the EVM and VVPAT machinesJassal said it was important to keep the youth abreast about the democratic process.

The ARO said under the SVEEP programme maximum efforts were being made to apprise the youth of how to get enrolled as a voter and then exercise their franchise to strengthen democracy at the grass root level.

She said democracy could be successful only if all stakeholders, especially the young voters participate in the poll process.
