Mansa district is all set to play host to the Punjab State Games for U-25 women) from March 24 to 27 wherein 2,400 players and 400 coaches will participate in 12 disciplines.

The formal grand inauguration of the event will be conducted on March 24 at the Multipurpose Stadium of Nehru Memorial College wherein all players, coaches and officers of the state government will take part.

The inaugural session will be a star-studded event with singer Kulwinder Billa and ‘The Project Raag’ participating in it.

Mansa Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait stated this while presiding over a meeting convened to discuss arrangements for the mega event.

She said the players would be fighting it out in matches of boxing, basketball, badminton, kabaddi, kho-kho, football, handball, wrestling, judo, volleyball, table tennis and weightlifting.

The lodging facilities for all players are being provided at Mata Sundri College. Teams from 22 districts will participate in the march-past at the inaugural event, which will also have professional boxing night. She said special emphasis was being laid to provide facilities to the players. They would be provided food and lodging facilities along with transport facilities to sites where matches are being held. The Civil Surgeon has been directed to ensure that health facilities are provided at the lodging site, Nehru Memorial College and at places where matches are being held.

The players are also being distributed tracksuits under the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign.

She said all arrangements should be in place by March 22 so that necessary amendments and changes could be made in time.

She said Nehru Memorial College would play host to badminton, judo, boxing, kabaddi, kho-kho, wrestling, weightlifting and table tennis. St Xaviers School, Mansa Khurd, would be hosting basketball matches. Khalsa School and Gandhi School would play host to football matches. Khalsa School would also play host to handball matches and Gandhi School would play host to volleyball matches.

ADC (G) Rajdeep Singh, ADC (D) Gurmeet Singh, Mansa SDM Abhijeet Kaplish, Budhlada SDM Aditya Dhachwal, Sardulgarh SDM Latif Ahmed, Assistant Commissioner Navdeep Kumar, DDPO Dinesh Vashisht and SP (H) Major Singh were among those others present.
