As many as 280 cartons of illicit liquor of various brands were seized today by police teams of the Police Division No. 3 and the CIA staff-1 from a Ludhiana resident.
The suspect, Surjit Singh of Ludhiana, had brought these liquor cartons from neighbouring states to supply the same to his clients in the district. He was nabbed by the police teams at Ikhari overbridge while he was coming from the Rajpura side with his acquaintances Sunil Kumar, Mani Jmaba and Amit Jamba. All have been booked under Sections 61-1-14 of the Excise Act at the Police Division No. 3. In another incident, a police team, led by ASI Trilochan Singh of Police Division No. 8, after receiving information from his sources arrested Inderpal Singh for supplying illicit liquor. He reportedly used to purchase liquor bottles at cheaper rates from Chandigarh and sold them to his suppliers in Jalandhar at high prices. The police teams had organised a special check post for him at BSF Chowk. A case under Sections 61-1-14 of the Excise Act have been registered against him. Besides, a car (bearing registration number PB10-DS-6508) was also recovered from the suspect.
While taking action against loot and theft incidents, the Basti Bawa Khel police, along with the CIA staff of the police today arrested two persons who were accused of looting Rs 20,000, from a jewellers’ shop at Rajagarden in Bast Bawakhel. The suspects have been identified as Taranbir Singh and Gulshan Kumar. DCP (investigation) Gurmeet Singh said the duo had entered the shop on March 26 and had injured the shopkeeper with sharp weapons. The victim, Ajay Gogna, had lodged an FIR against them at the Basti Bawa Khel police station. They have been booked under Sections 379-B and 323 of the IPC.
On March 11, the Police Division No. 1 and the CIA staff arrested Sanjay Kumar, alias Sanju, who were reportedly booked under Sections 379-B of the IPC for stealing a mobile phone from a resident near DAV College. An FIR (152) in this regard was lodged against him and his friend Nitin on August 31, 2018. Both are residents of Rajnagar, Basti Bawa Khel. The police said a case under Section 379-B was also registered against them. — TNS
