Jalandhar, March 12

Taking cognisance of the callousness of the staff to perform Election Duty, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today suspended a Patwari for dereliction of duty.

In orders issued today late evening, the Deputy Commissioner suspended Patwari Balpreet Singh posted as Booth Level Officer (BLO) in Adampur assembly segment. As per the information the Patwari had abstained from duty during the two-day special booth-level camps organised in the district on March 2 and 3 to facilitate the people to get their names corrected/added or deleted in the voter lists.

On the direction of the Deputy Commissioner, the Election Registration Officer (ERO) of Adampur assembly segment had issued show cause notice to the Patwari.

However, as the Patwari had not submitted any satisfactory reply to the show cause notice. The DC reiterated that election duty was a national service and every officer/ official was bound to impart it diligently. He said any sort of dereliction in performing the duty was both unwarranted and undesirable.

Sharma said no officer/ official would be allowed to break the stipulated norms and stern disciplinary action would be taken against them for indulging in such irresponsible behavior. The Deputy Commissioner warned the poll staff that no one would be allowed to take the election duty for granted and severest of severe action would be taken. — TNS
