As many as 14,68,972 voters, including 7,78,608 male, 6,90,313 female and 51 others, in the district will cast their votes on May 19.
As per the Election Commission of India (ECI), notification for the Lok Sabha elections here will be issued on April 22.
The last date for filing nomination papers will be April 29, scrutiny of nomination papers will be carried out on April 30 and nomination papers could be withdrawn on May 2, the ballots will be cast on May 19 and their counting will be held on May 23.
There will be 1,601 polling stations in the district, including 182 in Ajnala, 213 in Rajasansi, 203 in Majitha, 189 in Amritsar North, 173 in Amritsar West, 139 in Amritsar Central, 153 in Amritsar East, 151 in Amritsar South and 198 in Attari.
This time, VVPAT machines will be available with each EVM and electorates will be able to see the picture of the candidate on its screen for seven seconds.
District Election Officer Shivdular Singh Dhillon said, no party will be allowed to use the religious premises for the election purpose. He called upon the political parties to refrain from putting advertisements on public buildings. He said people could also make use of the c-VIGIL App.
Dr Himanshu Aggarwal, Additional District Election Officer, said the NRI voters and the youth, who attained 18 years of age on January 1, could cast their votes by filing form number six (A) and six, respectively, and submit the same to the Election Registeration Officer of their constituency or Booth Level Officers.
