All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has rubbished the controversy over the timing of the Lok Sabha polls saying when the Muslims can do everything else during Ramzan, why do they need to wait for the holy festival to be over before going to vote.

“On the contrary, men and women are relatively free as they do not have to do cooking and other Household chores during this time”, Owaisi said. He was reacting to Trinamool Congress leader and Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim suggesting that elections in the month of Ramzan would impact outcome of Muslim votes. He said “this is a totally uncalled for and unnecessary suggestion” and the Muslims will go out and participate in the festival of democracy.

The Hyderabad MP went on to say: “I would earnestly request those parties that please don’t use the Muslim community and Ramzan for whatever reasons you have... Muslims will definitely fast in Ramzan, they go out and lead a normal life, they go to office, even the poorest of the poor will also fast. My analysis is that this month (Ramzan) will lead to more voting percentage because one will be free from all worldly duties.”
