Chandigarh, March 8

Young classical vocalist Dr Monika Soni and danseuses of the Swadha Group of Performing Arts led by Dr Mansi Saxena gave a brilliant performance during a special musical programme — ‘ Shakti’ — organised by the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi (CSNA) to mark International Women’s Day at Tagore Theatre here on Friday.

Spiritual sanctity pervaded as Dr Soni, a foremost disciple of Pandit Mani Parshad, presented a devotional composition ‘Hey Govind Hey Gopal’ in raga Yamen, which melted into ‘Meera Bhajan Piya Ji Mharey Nain’. She was accompanied by accomplished musicians.

The second session belonged to Kathak dance doyenne Dr Mansi Saxena. After a solo dance by Dr Saxena, her disciple Smridhi presented a composition in Mohiniattam.
