Surajkund: The 33rd International Crafts Mela culminated here on Sunday without any cultural programme in view of the Pulwama attack. It was perhaps the first time that the Governor of Haryana, who usually presides over the closing ceremony, missed the event. Tourism Minister Ram Bilas Sharma, who was the chief guest at the event, formally declared the event closed. Earlier, reading out the performance report of the event, a senior official of the Tourism Department said besides 1,260 Indian artisans, over 300 from 30 countries participated in the mela.
Poet doctor releases second book
Rohtak: Srishti Gaur (18), a student of MBBS at PGIMS, Rohtak, has penned a poetry book, ‘The Dreamwalker’, which was released here recently. This is Srishti’s second book, the first one being ‘Reflection from the Heart’. “My first book featured my experiences as a child, while my second book is an introspective one comprising a wide spectrum of emotions,” said Srishti, who started writing at the age of 12. Addressing the gathering on the book release ceremony.
New Kaithal DC inspects offices
Kaithal: Priyanka Soni took over as the Kaithal Deputy Commissioner recently. Soon, she inspected various offices at the Mini-secretariat. While visiting a Saral Kendra’ she took feedback about the services being offered at the centre and directed the staff to dispose of their work fast. She said no person should be kept waiting for long and their work should be done within 20 minutes.
Para athlete exhorts youth to vote
Kurukshetra: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Amit Kumar Saroha, a celebrated para athlete, is on a mission to sensitise youth to exercise their franchise. The election authorities have appointed Saroha as its state icon to spread a message of the significance of casting votes. At an official function held recently in Kurukshetra, the Arjuna awardee said voting was a national duty. In an appeal to the youth, he said they had a great role to play in democracy.
