A woman was found dead at her house here this afternoon. Her body was lying on the bed, which was spotted by her parents.

The deceased has been identified as Sunita Devi, alias Gudiya (29). As per her mother Sanju Devi, Gudiya was having a tussle with his husband, Surinder, for the past few weeks and he was demanding money from her.

He also used to beat her. Recently,  Surinder asked her to bring Rs 10,000, which she could not provide him. Hence, this could be termed as a reason for further arguments and subsequently to her death.

Gudiya was strangled to death at her in-laws’ house in Rajan Nagar,  situated on the Basti Pirdad road.

The crime was reported to the area police by her parents who had come to drop her children, an eight- year-old boy and a 4-year-old daughter.

Sanju Devi said her body was lying on the bed and there was marks of bruises on her neck and hands. After the incident, councillor Lakhbir Singh Bajwa also reached the spot.

Bajwa said the murder seems to have occurred yesterday. Neighbours also complained of foul smell emanating from the rented accommodation of Surinder.

Sukhbir Singh,  SHO, Basti Bawa Khel,  said the murder appeared to have occurred in the wee hours. However, exact statement could be given only after receiving the post-mortem examination report.

As per the claims of her parents, an FIR has been registered against her husband and father-in-law.

The SHO further informed that her husband was absconding.

Both families had migrated from the Samastipur region of Bihar to the city.
