Rs 5 lakh relief for rape victim

AMBALA: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ambala, has awarded a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to a minor rape victim under the Haryana Victim Compensation Scheme, 2013.

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ambala, has awarded a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to a minor rape victim under the Haryana Victim Compensation Scheme, 2013.

Danish Gupta, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM)-cum-Secretary, DLSA, Ambala, said, “A case was registered under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and Section 201 of the IPC at women police station on January 29, 2017. The victim was raped by Mahinder (70) and the court of Yashwinder Paul Singh, Additional District and Sessions Judge, sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment”.

The accused is the grandfather of the victim. The mother and the father of the girl had died and she along with her four sisters were living with their grandfather. Her two sisters are married. The CJM said that in the interest of justice, Rs 5 Lakh is awarded as compensation for the rehabilitation of the victim. — TNS
