Woman, accomplice get life sentence for murder

A woman, who killed her lover after he turned down her offer of marriage, and her accomplice (her brother-in-law) were sentenced to life imprisonment by Additional District and Sessions Judge DR Chalia here on Saturday.

The Judge held Robina, a resident of Pabra village, and her accomplice Surender (husband of Robina’s sister), a resident of Kharal village in Jind district, guilty of murder and awarded them life term. The police said that the duo had killed Jaipal, a resident of Jewra village in Hisar district, on October 27, 2016. The police recovered the body outside the village the same day.

During investigation, the police zeroed in on Robina and Surender. They revealed to the police during interrogation that Robina was having an affair with Jaipal but he declined her offer of marriage. Irked at being spurned, she took Surender with her. They called Jaipal to Hisar and together went to Agroha. While returning to Jewra village, they stopped on the outskirts of the village where Surender shot Jaipal dead.

The police traced the body after one of the members of Jaipal’s family revealed that he had spotted the trio together on October 27, 2016. The police later recovered the pistol used in the crime and the motorcycle of the accused.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Robina and Rs 6,000 on Surender.
