Kaithal: About 30 families in the district have received social security to the tune of Rs 30 lakh under the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Accidental Scheme in the 2018-19 fiscal so far. Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Soni said this here on Friday. "Only those Haryana residents not covered under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana can avail the benefit of the accidental scheme. Beneficiaries are not required to pay premium," she added. OC

Man impersonating dentist booked  

Yamunanagar: The police on Thursday booked Balbir Chawla for practising as dentist in Farakpur without qualification. Shyam Sunder, in his complaint to the CM, said he had got himself treated at the clinic. “Chawla failed to treat me and caused a problem in my ear,” he reported. Following his complaint, it was found that Chawla did not have a valid degree in dentistry. TNS

Undertrials in jail get video-chat facility 

Ambala: Now, undertrials lodged in Central Jail here can interact with panel advocates of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) through video-conferencing. The facility was started on Friday. As per the schedule, undertrials whose cases are pending in Ambala courts can interact with their advocates daily. In all, 38 inmates interacted with their advocates on Friday. TNS

Youth gets life term in rape case

Hisar: Additional District and Sessions Judge Pankaj on Friday awarded life term to a youth, Manjeet, in a case of rape and abduction of a minor girl belonging to the Scheduled Caste community. His accomplices, Sanjay and Monu, were acquitted. The case dates back to October 29, 2017, when the girl was abducted at night from outside her house. Her father had alleged she was administered an intoxicant and was taken to another village and raped there. The case was registered on October 31, 2017. TNS

35-yr-old murdered in Panipat

Panipat: The body of a 35-year-old man was found lying nude in a plot near Bhola chowk here on Wednesday. The police registered a case of murder. The deceased was yet to be identified. Quilla SHO Virender Singh said the deceased's face was hidden in soil and there was no injury mark. The body was sent to the general hospital for postmortem examination. TNS

Three held with 70-gm ‘chitta’

Kaithal: Three men were arrested with 70-gm ‘chitta’ here on Thursday. The accused were produced in court here on Friday and sent to judicial custody. The SP, Waseem Akram, said a police team on the Ambala road here signalled a car to stop, but its driver tried to escape. After a brief chase, the police nabbed the car occupants. OC
