Jammu, February 14
The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil, has announced initiating a mass civil disobedience movement against the decision of the state administration to set up the headquarters of the newly created Ladakh division in Leh district.
The council has asked all district offices not to entertain any government directions till necessary amendments are made into SRO-110, which deals with a separate division for Ladakh.
Meanwhile, Kargil district continued to simmer against the alleged discriminatory order of the Governor’s administration. Protests against the move spread into other parts of the district, including Sankoo and Drass subdivisions, several blocks of Tai Suru, Barsoo, Minjee, Batalik, Shakar Chiktan, Wakha and Shargole, with protesters demanding an equal share for Kargil district.
The joint resistance committee against SRO-110 asked district officials to abstain from duty and support the cause or else face stern action.
Later, a human chain was formed from Kabadi Nullah to Imam Khomeni Chowk in which around 2,000 people participated. The committee has called for a “mass protest” on Friday after the weekly prayers.
