A complaint box has been installed at Government College for Girls (GCG) in which girl students can submit their complaints and the box will be opened either by the principal or by police officials every month. The box coloured in pink reads “Himmat di aawaz” (voice of courage).

The need for installing up the complaint box was felt after students complained of eve teasing incidents outside the college during the recent seminar held on ‘Crime against women’ at college. ACP Sartaj Singh was the chief guest during the seminar and girls shared with him how the incidents of eve teasing were common as they step out of the college.

Apart from installing the complaint box, women police has also been deployed. An hour before the college starts, and one hour after the college gets over; women police have been given the duty to be around the college gates.

“Women police has been deployed and complaint box has also been installed at the college premises. Girls were complaining of eve teasing incidents and we are hopeful that after police deployment things will become smooth,” said Savita Sharma, principal of GCG.

She further said, “Putting up a complaint box is a good step but the real purpose of the box will be solved only when the box is opened up by the police. Our students are aware and they will be submitting the complaint if they face any problem. The opening up of the box should be a regular feature,” she added.
