To check the drug menace, the district administration launched a drive. NGOs, religious and social organisations besides Buddy Groups have been roped in for it. To create awareness on the issue among students, 17,894 Buddy Groups have been formed in schools, colleges and universities of the district.

This was stated by Shivdular Singh Dhillon, Deputy Commissioner, while talking to mediapersons after an interaction with Buddy Groups.

He said the Buddy initiative was the brainchild of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and the district administration had launched a campaign in the district to make it a success and implement it at the grassroots level.

The Deputy Commissioner said 2,814 teachers had been deputed as senior buddies to sensitise students to the issue.

Dhillon disclosed that under the Tu Mera Buddy programme, groups of five students each had been formed and teachers had been appointed as senior buddies.
