The Department of the Excise and Taxation, UT, has penalised the owners of four vends in the city with Rs 2 lakh each after liquor bottles without hologram were found there. Besides, the department has for the first time taken samples of two brands of liquor and would test these for purity.
While two of the erring vends are situated at Sector 31 and 22, the other two are in Dadu Majra.
Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner RK Chaudhary said the samples from liquor bottles of Black Dog and Black Label brands were taken and would be sent for testing. He said action would be taken as per law if the samples were found not meeting the parameters.
The excise official said they also checked holograms on bottles of various brands and these were found to be genuine.
Sources said around 10 vends were inspected today.
Chaudhary said the aim of introducing 3D holograms was to prevent smuggling of liquor out of the city besides ensuring that the prescribed duty was paid on the stock in possession of the dealer.
