Chandigarh, January 22

Satish  Kumar  Kainth, the councillor who was expelled from the BJP for contesting mayoral elections, has  questioned the  formation of a  probe  committee by the Chandigarh  BJP  to inquire into cross  voting.

In  a letter  to  Prime   Minister  Narendra  Modi,  Kainth stated that  he   had lost the mayoral election  by just five votes, getting the support of seven to eight party councillors. He stated that senior leaders of the party backed him but he  was ignored and the councillor with a tainted  past  was made the party candidate.

He  said the  committee   included a councillor, Ravi Kant Sharma, who had voted in the elections.  He  said   it  seemed the party had given a clean chit to him even before holding a probe into the issue. Kainth stated that it showed  bias towards him.

Kainth further wrote that the image of the party received a setback due to it. He has sought time from the  Prime   Minister  to explain the situation at present.
