Amid reports that the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections will be heldsimultaneously in J&K, the state BJP leadership on Saturday briefed the party high command on the poll preparations. The state BJP has assured the leadership that it was prepared for the elections.
Sources said on the sidelines of the two-day national convention of the party, the BJP’s central leadership on Saturday convened an exclusive brief meeting of the J&K unit of party to seek feedback on the prevailing situation in the state.
“We have conveyed to the high command that the state unit is ready to fight the simultaneous electoral battle for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in J&K,” a BJP member, who attended the meeting, said. “Although the decision in this regard is likely to be taken by the Election Commission of India, it appears that the party high command is also in favour of conducting the elections simultaneously,” he said.
The BJP leader said the central leadership had asked the state unit to set a target to set up booth-level committees in 15 days in the state in general and the Jammu region in particular. “The high command has hinted that the Assembly elections are likely to be held along with the Lok Sabha elections,” he said.
The sources said BJP state president Ravinder Raina and three general secretaries of the party attended the meeting, in which state presidents and general secretaries from all states were present.
