Man suffers bullet injury on his thigh in Mohali

Says someone tried to snatch his pistol, opened fire at him

Mohali, January 12

A Sangrur-based person sustained a bullet injury on his thigh under mysterious circumstances at Phase 7 here late last night.

While the victim, Sarabjit Singh (32), claimed that an unidentified person, who tried to snatch his pistol in a park at Phase 7 around 11 pm yesterday, opened fire at him, the police did not believe his statement.

Talking to Chandigarh Tribune, Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Singh Chahal said the facts were being verified.

“Prima facie, it appears that it was an accidental fire and he (Sarabjit) seems to be misleading the police,” said SSP Chahal. SSP Chahal said his (Sarabjit Singh) credentials were also being checked.

“He received a gunshot on his thigh. What he is telling to us does not seem to be true. We have recovered the weapon from his car from which the gunshot was fired. If someone had tried to snatch his firearm and opened fire at him, why would he leave the weapon in his car? Definitely he is misleading the police,” said SSP Chahal.

The police said Sarabjit had sold his properties and was unemployed at present. A case is yet to be registered in this regard. — TNS
