Cultural competition held

Phagwara: DAV College, Phagwara, organised an ‘Inter-zonal school competition’ on its premises here on Friday.An Australia-based NRI philanthropist, Prabhjot Singh Sandhu, migration law adviser and chairman, Punjabi Council of Australia, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Students sang devotional songs and present cultural items including ‘Bhangra’, Gidha and folk songs.Principal Dr Kiranjeet Randhawa thanked the chief guest and other dignitaries. He said: “The purpose behind organising the event was to engage and channelise the creative imagination of the students and to save them from drug-addiction and mobile mania.” OC

Man run over by train

Phagwara: One unidentified person was run over by a running train near Mauli village Railway Station on the Phagwara-Phillaur rail section on Friday. The Government Railway Police (GRP) in charge Gurbheij Singh said the GRP have registered a case and sent the body to the Civil Hospital for autopsy. OC

Deity’s crown stolen

Phagwara: The crown of goddess Durga was found stolen from a religious place here on Thursday. On a complaint lodged by the caretaker of the shrine, Neeraj Pandey, the police have registered a case under Sections 454 and 380 of the IPC.OC
