Hoshiarpur, January 11
Seven members of a family who were returning from a religious place in a auto-rickshaw were seriously injured when the vehicle was hit by a cement-laden truck near the Phagwara bypass.
The injured were admitted to the local Civil Hospital. After receiving the information about the incident, Sohan Singh, in-charge of the Purheeran police post, reached the spot with the police party and started investigation.
As per information, Amrik Singh of Bassi Daulat Khan village and Mikka, Harkirat Singh, driver of the auto-rickshaw, Kuldeep Singh, Gurbakhsh Kaur, Sabina, Pallvi, daughter of Amrik Singh, and Manpreet Singh, all residents of Bassi Daulat Khan, had gone to a religious place in Nangal Shama village this morning.
When they reached near the Phagwara bypass in the evening, a truck coming from the Chandigarh side collided with the auto-rickshaw. All passengers of the auto-rickshaw were injured.
ASI Sohan Lal said the truck driver had fled after the incident while the injured had been sent to the Civil Hospital for treatment. The probe in the matter was on. — OC
