The Dasuya police on Friday arrested Ripudaman Singh Hundal in the celebratory firing incident that occurred last night in which a photographer was killed by a gunshot during a pre-marriage function.

The police had booked Ripudaman and his father Upjit Singh Hundal of Hardothala, brother and father of the would-be bride, respectively, under Sections 302, Indian Penal Code (IPC), and the Arms Act on the complaint of deceased’s co-worker Atul.

Atul, who is a resident of Puaara village in Mukerian, told the Dasuya police that he and Jaspal used to do photography and videography works of wedding ceremonies. On January 8, he and Jaspal Singh, alias Jassi (23), a resident of Mansoorpur (Mukerian), were hired by Ladi Studio, Dasuya.

They had shot photos and video of the shagun ceremony of Upjit’s daughter.

On January 10, he and Jaspal had gone to cover the ‘jaago’ ceremony at Upjit’s home. The owner of Ladi Studio, Kuldeep Singh, was also working with them.

Later in the night, the bride took out a ‘jaago’. During this time, Ripudaman started dancing with a gun in his hand. The gunshot fired from the gun hit Jaspal on the chest.

The family fled the house after locking it. With the help of his fellow workers and others, Kuldeep took Jaspal to the Civil Hospital in Dasuya, where doctors declared him dead.

The complainant alleged that Upjit and his son Ripudaman had deliberately killed Jaspal.

The Dasuya police have registered a case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 27 of the Arms Act against the duo.
