Panipat, December 17

Four police personnel, including the Inspector in charge of a CIA-2 team, have been booked for allegedly kidnapping and murdering a 29-year-old youth.

Members of the Kandela khap held a mahapanchayat in Vikas Nagar Monday on the issue of the custodial death of Rajesh, a resident of Vikas Nagar here.

The bereaved family members alleged that Rajesh was tortured to death. They also refused to receive the body, which is lying in the mortuary at the PGIMS, Rohtak, for the last three days.

The khap members from Jind, Gohana, Panipat, and Hisar along with Rajesh’s relatives and family members gathered in Vikas Nagar and expressed their anger over police inaction.

They gave an ultimatum to the police that if their demands were not met till 4 pm, they would block the National Highway-44 near Nangal Kheri village.

DSP (headquarters) Satish Vats and SDM Vivek Chaudhary tried to pacify the protesters, who demanded registration of a case against CIA-2 team in charge Inspector Yogesh Kataria, ASI Ravinder Kundu, constables Praveen and Dharmveer and others and their arrest.

They also demanded a government job for Rajesh’s family member and Rs 1 crore as compensation for the bereaved family.

The SDM pacified the protesters by assuring them that their demands would be escalated to the higher government authorities and a case would be registered. Later the protesters agreed to receive the body.

Vats said, “A case has been registered against Inspector Yogesh Kataria, in charge of CIA-2, ASI Ravinder Kundu, constables Praveen and Dharmveer and others under Section 365 (kidnapping), 302 (murder) and 34 of the IPC at Chandnibagh police station.”
