Chandigarh, December 5

Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore today reviewed the Smart City projects.

During a meeting with Badnore, MC officials gave presentations on the progress made in three projects, namely 24X7 water supply in Mani Majra, public bicycle sharing scheme and intelligent traffic management system. Sources said Badnore asked the officials to begin the work on these projects in the New Year.

Sources said the project management consultants, Egis International SA, had already submitted the reports of the three projects. Smart City Company would now float tenders for the implementation of the projects.

The 24X7 water supply project will cost around Rs 80 crore. It will be started in Mani Majra on pilot basis. The Intelligent Traffic Light Management System will cost over Rs 42 crore and is likely to be completed within a year. The project is aimed at making the entire functioning of traffic lights smart by managing these from a control room. Under the cycle sharing scheme, approximately 5,000 bicycles will be made available to people. The total cost of the project will be around Rs 25 to 30 crore.

The city made it to the list of Smart cities on May 25, 2016.
