Two sambars were killed in separate incidents after they strayed into the town today.

Range Officer Surjit Singh said a two-year-old female sambar was found flowing in the Sirhind canal. It was injured in the head and when a worker of the Wildlife Department tried to save it, the animal hit him with her hoofs, injuring him.

Soon after, the animal died due to her injury, he added.

Besides, two sambars were rescued from the Bhakra canal near Ghanauli, he said.

In another incident, a sambar was found dead in the water near gates of the Ganguwal power house in the evening, said the forest official.
