Srinagar, November 13
The Hindu Welfare Society, Kashmir, on Tuesday objected to the demand of the Sikh community to revoke the ordinance favouring the Kashmiri Pandits.
Society president Chunni Lal Bhat said the non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits had fought hard for their demands while advising the Sikh community to ‘fight its own battle’.
“We have no problem if the state grants a special package to the Sikh community. We will welcome it. The demand of the Sikhs seeking revocation of SRO-425 is misplaced as non-migrants fought tooth and nail to get the ordinance passed. They (Sikhs) should fight their own battle and seek a separate package, we won’t interfere. They, too, should not object to packages given to us as we all have suffered,” Bhat said.
The society president made the comments a day after the Sikhs staged a protest seeking revocation of SRO-42. — TNS
