The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday directed the issuance of seven-day advance notice to Punjab’s former Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwarjit Singh Sandhu on his plea for handing over investigation in any matter registered against him to the Central Bureau of Investigation or any other independent agency outside the state.
Disposing of his plea against the state, Director-General of Police, and another respondent, Justice Sudhir Mittal directed the issuance of notice in case action was contemplated against him.
Apprehending implication in false criminal matters due to “malice”, “mala fide” and “ulterior motive” on the part of the political party in power in the state, Sandhu claimed that the present government was treating him like an enemy and not leaving any stone unturned to harm him. He was, rather, being targeted as a man who had launched criminal prosecution against the present Chief Minister and his companions.
