Srinagar, October 15
Ahead of last phase of municipal elections in Kashmir, two CRPF jawans were injured in a militant attack in south Kashmir's Pulwama district on Monday evening.
Militants opened fire at a sentry post of CRPF's 183 battalion at Newa Pulwama at around 10 pm.
“CRFF returned the fire,” a senior security officer said.
“The exchange of fire continued for some time in which two of our jawans received bullet injuries.”
The injured jawans were shifted to district hospital for treatment. Forces have cordoned the area to nab the attackers.
The attack was carried hours ahead of the last phase of municipal polls. Polling is being held only for two municipalities - Ganderbal and parts of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) - in the fourth phase of municipal elections in Kashmir on Tuesday. Authorities have made all the necessary arrangements for the polls.
