Politicians banned on MDU campus

The authorities of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) have banned the entry of members of political parties and other politicians on the university campus in view of the upcoming student union elections.

Vice-Chancellor BK Punia stated that there would be no holiday at the university on Saturday and Sunday in view of the elections. A draw of lots was conducted on Thursday, as per which the post of the MDU students’ union president was reserved for a girl student from the Scheduled Caste.

An 11-member central election committee was constituted to conduct the electoral process. The Dean, Students Welfare, would be the convener of the committee. Another committee was constituted under the chairmanship of the Proctor 

to listen to the poll-related grievances.

The State University of Performing and Visual Arts (SUPVA) held a meeting under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Rajbir. A draw of lots was conducted, as per which the post of SUPVA students’ union president was reserved for a girl student and executive committee secretary for Scheduled Caste category.

Meanwhile, a meeting of students’ organisations was held on the MDU campus. They decided to oppose elections in the proposed indirect format, terming it undemocratic.
