Ambala, October 11
A 10-year-old boy was brutally thrashed by his father in Kurali village of Naraingarh late Wednesday evening for allegedly picking up Rs 25, which the father had kept for religious purpose.
The boy was rescued by a team of Child Line and taken to Naraingarh civil hospital. From there he was taken to Ambala City civil hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. The accused has been identified as Inderjeet Singh, a farmer. He thrashed his child using a stick and there were injury marks on the boy’s face, legs and back. Inderjeet allegedly thrashed his wife too when she attempted to save the boy.
Though the boy said he does not want any action against his father, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has asked the police to take action and Inderjeet has been arrested. The Child Line got a call from the boy’s friend and the team reached the house.
Child Line coordinator Sujata said “He is the only child of the couple and is a student of Class VI. The neighbours say the man used to beat the boy often but this time he crossed all limits. The condition of the house is very poor.”
Child Line members also found a chain kept along with a sofa and were told that the chain was used to tie the child’s mother as she used to suffer fits.
Gurdev Singh, officiating chairperson of the CWC, said “The child is undergoing treatment. He is scared and has been provided counselling. Due to the mental condition of the mother, the boy and his father prepared food and did other chores of the house. The boy wants to stay with his parents as there is no one except them to take care of the mother. Social investigation would be done and security of the child would be ensured.”
