Four more militants have been killed, taking the toll to five, in an encounter with security forces that began in the Sumlar area of Bandipora district on Thursday.
All five slain militants are believed to be part of a freshly infiltrated group of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).
Their identity was being ascertained, while a combing operation to flush out any hiding militants was still on, officials said.
“The encounter is over with the killing of five militants, whose identity is being ascertained. A combing operation was going on at the encounter site,” said a senior officer from Bandipora.
“The killed terrorists were affiliated with the LeT. Apparently, they were part of a freshly infiltrated group,” a police spokesman said. A huge quantity of arms, ammunition and incriminating material was recovered from the encounter site, the police said.
While the body of one of the militants was retrieved on Thursday, another body was recovered from the forest area at Shokhbabun in the Sumlar area on Friday morning, the police said. Three other militants were killed in the encounter that continued on the second day on Friday, taking the toll to five.
