One dead, four injured in separate fire incidents

A man was killed and another injured after a fire broke out at a godown in Mori Gate, north Delhi, said a Delhi Fire Service official.

The deceased was identified as Rajender (40) and the injured was identified as Yogesh (24), he said.

The official said the incident took place last night. A call about the fire was received at 8.50 pm. Four fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The fire was brought under control by 10 pm.

A fire broke out on the ground floor of the godown of a automobile spare parts where the victims were engaged in welding work, said the DCP (North).

Both the victims were rushed to a nearby hospital where Rajendra succumbed to injuries. Yogesh is under observation at LNJP hospital.

The owner of godown, Yogesh, has been arrested in connection with the incident and a case has been lodged. 

In another fire incident, two resident doctors and a nurse suffered burn injuries in Safdurjung Hospital, another DFS official said.

According to a preliminary report, the fire broke out in the eye operation theatre during a routine surgery.

"During a routine eye surgery, a spirit swab caught fire accidentally when the doctor was rubbing it on a patient. While the patient suffered no harm and his operative procedure could be completed satisfactorily, the injured staff were immediately shifted to the burns casualty," the report read.

Seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the flames were doused within half an hour, he said.
