Una, July 20
Chief Secretary Vineet Chawdhry on Thursday launched three research programmes of the Union Health Ministry at the district Secretariat in Una.
The programmes will be implemented by Dr Radhakrishnan Medical College, Hamirpur, through Model Rural Health Research unit of the Union Government in Haroli.
The Chief Secretary said the three programmes would address research issues related to a campaign against smoking at public places, prevalence and checking cervix cancer among women, besides prevalence and checking throat cancer.
He said while there were laws to check smoking in public places, these could not be implemented. Consequently, smoking-related health issues were on the rise. A programme “Episodic Drives Against Smoking in Public Places” would be implemented on a pilot basis in Una and Haroli in the next one year. — OC
