Mumbai, December 24

Shortage of land in the country’s financial capital is proving to be a major hurdle for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train. The original proposal to build a train terminus at the Bandra-Kurla Complex and align it to the Western Railway’s existing track to Gujarat via an underground line has been shot down by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority. Sources said the MMRDA has conveyed to the Railway Ministry that the plot of land earmarked for the bullet train terminal at BKC was required for construction of new office buildings. — TNS
