Hisar, February 4
Agriculture Minister Om Prakash Dhankar has said that the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana would benefit 11 lakh farmers in Haryana. They would get Rs660 crore every year under the scheme.
Addressing a gathering of farmers at a function in Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agriculture University (HAU) here on Saturday, Dhankar said that the Narendra Modi-led NDA government has taken several steps, including crop insurance scheme, ensuring 50 per cent profit of the crop and Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna. These are key steps towards doubling the income of the farmers by 2022.
“Such welfare measures for farmers have been taken for the first time in 70 years. Even the earlier farmers’ leaders like the former Prime Ministers Charan Singh and HD Deve Gowda and former Deputy PM Devi Lal had not taken so many steps for the welfare of farmers,” Dhankar claimed.
He inaugurated an international symposium at the university and laid the foundation stone of the Golden Jubilee Women’s Hostel and launched the HAU e-mart website designed to sell the products of farmers and the university online.
He said the Agriculture Department would organise Agri Summit in Gannaur in Sonepat from February 15 to 17. The farmers who have outstanding achievements in agriculture will be honoured by the government there.
Dhankar honoured three farmers of the state Kanwal Singh Chauhan, Sultan Singh and Narendra Singh who received the Padma Shri this year.
