Family members of Seema (38), who has died in the operation theatre at Palampur Civil Hospital on January 3, while undergoing surgery by doctors of Delhi-based private Akash Hospital, have been running from pillar to post seeking justice.

Seema, wife of Mureed Hussain of Tibby village in Indora subdivision, who was suffering from some genecology ailment was initially examined by the private hospital’s doctors at Nurpur Civil Hospital on December 25, where this hospital had earlier organised a medical camp. She was asked to come on December 27 for surgery. As stated by the family members of the deceased, she was partially operated and discharged on December 29. After developing post-operative complication she was asked by the camp doctors to come at Palampur Civil Hospital on January 2 for her final surgery where she died while undergoing surgery at the operation theatre the next day.

Mureed Ali, brother, and Saif Ali, brother-in-law of the deceased, along with local panchayat up pradhan Sher Khan came to the DSP office here to submit a memorandum to him on Saturday, but he was busy overseeing the arrangements for the Jan Manch programme scheduled for Sunday in Nurpur. Later, they left their memorandum in his office after talking to him on his phone. The copies of the memorandum were also submitted to the Chief Minister, Health Minister, SP, Kangra and SDM, Indora, demanding action against the negligent doctors who were responsible for the sudden death of Seema.

The family members of the deceased alleged that the doctors’ team had deceived them by taking dead Seema to Tanda medical college (TMC), Kangra, on January 3 evening, whereas, she had died while undergoing surgery in the operation theatre at the Palampur Civil Hospital. Mureed Ali with tears in his eyes said the doctors who had conducted the operation had kept his sister in the operation theatre from 12 pm to 7 pm on that day and declared her serious before taking her to the TMC. The family has demanded registration of criminal case against the doctors from the private hospital, who had operated upon Seema.

Mureed Hussain is very poor and works as a labourer. Sher Khan accompanying the family members of the deceased has urged Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur to extend financial help to the affected family. Meanwhile, DSP Sahil Arora said he had forwarded the complaint to the Chief Medical Officer, Kangra, to probe the reason behind the death of Seema. The body was handed over to the family in a hurry without conducting a postmortem examination on January 3 at the TMC. Meanwhile, the family members of Seema also met Industry Minister Vikram Thakur, who was here to preside over the Jan Manch programme at Bhadwar and submitted the copy of the memorandum to him. Gursharan Gupta, Chief Medical Officer, Kangra, said the probe being conducted by a three-member board at the TMC would submit its report within 10 days to the government.
