The National Commission for Women (NCW) today issued a notice to BJP lawmaker from Mughalsarai Sadhna Singh condemning her “offensive” remarks against BSP chief Mayawati and asked her to reply to the notice.

The notice, sent by NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma, says, “It is reported that you have allegedly made insulting remarks against a senior woman political leader. It has been reported that you allegedly said that a woman who underwent a chirharan is now compromising with the perpetrators and that such a woman is worse than a eunuch, a blot on womankind. The remarks made are extremely offensive, unethical and show disrespect towards the dignity and respect of women in general. The commission strongly condemns such irresponsible and disparaging views of persons holding responsible positions. You are required to provide a satisfactory explanation to the commission on the matter on receipt of this notice,” the NCW notice read.

Sadhna Singh lashed out at Mayawati at a poll rally in her constituency yesterday and provoked a widespread condemnation of the remarks. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav attacked the BJP and demanded that Sadhna Singh be booked under the stringent Prevention of Atrocities against the SCs and STs Act.
